The Yonkers Department of Housing and Buildings (DHB) is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Yonkers residents, business and property owners in the area of housing and building code enforcement. We issue building permits and certificates of occupancy, conduct inspections and investigate complaints regarding housing and building construction.

Operates programs to benefit veterans and members of their families. Benefits include compensation payments for disabilities or death related to military service, pensions, education and training, home loan, burial and a medical care program incorporating nursing homes, clinics, and medical centers. Comprised of three organizations that administer veterans programs: the Veterans Health Administration, the Veterans Benefits Administration, and the National Cemetery Administration. Maintains public parks, swimming facilities, athletic fields/courts and other recreational locations for local residents to utilize.

Coordinates ride-sharing transportation aboard CNYRTA Specialized Transportation vehicles and specially-marked vendor vehicles for individuals who have been deemed functionally unable to ride Centro due to their disabilities.

Offers occupational, physical and speech rehabilitation for individuals recovering at home from surgery, illness, etc.

The Health Planning Council is a program of the Human Services Coalition committed to improving the health and well-being of Tompkins County residents. By convening stakeholders across multiple sectors and providing a neutral forum to exchange ideas, HPC promotes collaboration, alignment of resources, and shared leadership to achieve the common goals. HPC administers the Tompkins Health Network, a rural health network program focused on improving access to health care, coordination of services, and ensuring equitable health outcomes for all people.Health Planning Council has an Advisory Board of Directors and implements its work plan through standing committees and ad hoc work groups. It oversees programs and services that improve access to health care and reduces disparities including the following programs: Health Insurance Navigation, Community Health Advocates, and Community Health & Resource Network.

HOTLINE OPERATORS: Must commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week, after 5pm weekdays or any time weekends. Calls are forwarded to volunteer's home. Extensive training required. SHELTER AIDES: Provide creative playtime for children, assist staff with shelter chores, sort donations, other tasks as needed. SPEAKERS BUREAU: Represent the LIADV at health fairs and fundraising activities/events, as well as make educational presentations to community groups. OFFICE ASSISTANTS: Answer phones, help with mailings, filing, data entry. STUDENT INTERNSHIPS: Number of positions open and departments may vary per semester. Please inquire within if interested.

Provides transitional information, guidance, and referrals for parents of children with developmental disabilities who are finishing school, regarding agencies which provide vocational, pre-vocational and life skills training.
