Safe Haven is a designated public place, such as a hospital, firehouse, EMS station or police precinct where a baby can be left, in a safe condition, so that it may be permanently cared for. The goal of Safe Haven is to accept an infant from a birth mother, get the infant medical care if needed, then put the infant in the adoption process.

Offers services of professional registered nurses trained in the examination of survivors of rape/sexual assault. Provides immediate physical, emotional, and forensic care. Victims should report to emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, Stony Brook Hospital in Stony Brook, Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, or to local police station and request sexual assault nurse examiner. Does not require police involvement.

Offers accompaniment services to court for rape victims in Mount Vernon and Yonkers, and to rape victims and homicide witnesses at county court in White Plains. Will also meet rape victims at area police department and emergency rooms.

The building department monitors new building conditions and construction, and oversees the maintenance of older multi-family structures. Also enforces the state and local building codes, housing standards and ordinances, to the review of applications for permits of new buildings, repairs, alterations, signs, and rooming houses, in addition to electrical and plumbing work. The building department accepts complaints from tenants about conditions the landlord fails to resolve.

Provides a package of food, including emergency food supplies for low income individuals or families. Also offers clothing and other household items if needed.

Provides speakers to promote health and wellness seminars and workshops, including disease-specific information through various sources, online, printed materials, etc.

Offers community members and their families the opportunity to shop for donated gently used clothing, shoes, hats, bedding, dishes and glassware.

Provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for both inpatient and outpatients through physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Offers a program that will provide students with the knowledge needed to perform the duties required of an entry-level Dialysis Technician trainee. The program covers the key principles of kidney function and failure and dialysis therapy, kidney dialysis machines, dialyzer preparation and reprocessing, as well as how to assist dialysis patients in managing their disease and treatment. The course is a remote format with 50 hours of instructor-led classes via Zoom video conferencing and access to an online system. Students with a high school diploma and who complete a minimum of one year of employment as a Dialysis Technician at an End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or medical facility can apply to take the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT) Certified Hemodialysis Technician certifying exam. A current, government-issued ID and a clear record with no felonies is required to take the exam. This training is appropriate for RNs, EMTs, CNAs, PCTs and other health care professionals interested in specializing in dialysis. For those without healthcare experience, this course will provide basic dialysis treatment knowledge to make the student more marketable in applying for an employee training program at a Dialysis Treatment Center. Assists school age students from Nassau and Suffolk counties to avert hospitalization for severe emotional/psychiatric problems and students with psychiatric problems who are on the Autism Spectrum. The IDT Program is also a therapeutic program to help a youngster adjust to the community following a period of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or a short term placement for youngsters leaving psychiatric hospitalization en route to day treatment or other specialized school-based services. Instructional staff provided by the Special Education Division of Western Suffolk BOCES in concert with professionals funded by the Office of Mental Health/Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center, provide intensive intervention to students on an extended day basis. The program also works with pupils who have been in a day treatment or other intensive school placement and have not been successful.

DLS provides confidential, free legal assistance to survivors who need legal help due to a major disaster, but who do not have the means to secure adequate legal services. For individuals seeking DLS, there is no formal application process. Individuals can access these services by contacting the phone number designated for the specific major disaster.
