Village government

A statewide, comprehensive cancer screening program that provides breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer screening for eligible, uninsured and under-insured women and men.Covering Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Schuyler, and Tioga counties.

Maintains all village roads including paving & repair, snow removal, street sweeping, and signage in the Village of South Glens Falls. Picks up residential brush & leaves and provides waste management information for Village of South Glens Falls residents. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating the system of aqueducts, reservoirs, channels, pipelines, mains, laterals, curb boxes, and pumping and purifying equipment by which the community's water supply is obtained, treated, stored, and distributed to consumers in the Village of South Glens Falls. Responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the pipes, drains, and manholes that constitute the sewage collection system which transports liquid waste to treatment facilities.

Management of a variety of properties providing safe and affordable housing for individuals and families on low incomes. Some units are reserved for people who might be over 62 years, or with disabilities, or homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment services in speech and language including articulation, phonology, oral motor function, expressive language, voice, laryngectomy, fluency, language/learning difficulties, post stroke rehabilitation. Swallowing: modified barium swallow study, chewing difficulties, swallowing disorders. Hearing: comprehensive audiologic testing, pure tone testing, speech reception testing, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, hearing aid evaluation, vestibular/ balance testing ENG, newborn hearing testing, otoacoustic emissions, central audiology difficulties, tinnitus and auditory training.

Teaches customers more about saving money on energy bills and about Con Edison's programs and services. The Advocates can talk with civic, social, religious, professional or other groups at their local meetings. There's no cost to schedule a presentation. Also provides information, depending on the season, on cooling centers, heat stress and tips on how to save on your energy bills, as in winter keeping the house from losing heat, safety tips, managing the thermostat, and more.

Provides assistance with completion of the NYS Office of Victim Services Claims Application and Victim Impact Statement. Provides referrals to shelters and other needed services. Offers safety planning as well as criminal justice support and advocacy.

Offers Suffolk County residents 60 years of age or older the ability to attend credit-bearing courses on a space available basis without paying tuition. Please note, however, that senior citizens are expected to pay required college fees. In addition, Senior citizens enrolling in a physical education, internship, cooperative education or field placement course/program are required to pay a non-refundable accident insurance fee. Those who attend courses through this program do not receive academic credit but have an opportunity to develop their personal and professional interests by attending the classes as “audit” students. Though not paying tuition, senior citizens are subject to the audit conditions outlined under "Grading System" of the Academic Policies webpage. It should be understood that no grades can be earned or recorded for participation in these courses. Unfortunately, the College cannot extend this opportunity to attend courses on a space-available basis to senior citizens registering for Continuing Education/non-credit courses, since the latter must be financially self-supporting and therefore, tuition must be paid. Additional information may be obtained by calling the campus Registrar's Office. Senior citizens are also invited to attend the theatre productions, concerts, art exhibits and lectures sponsored by the College. Call for more detailed information.

Assists individuals and families once every month by providing enough food for 3 days. (Special circumstances warrant more frequent aid.) There is also assistance in applying for Food Stamps, WIC, or other benefits, if eligible. Hygiene items, diapers, baby food, and formula are available either directly or through referral through the Pantry Plus program, based on availability.

Preserves (jointly with the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association) the 1819 house in which Walt Whitman was born, making the poet, his life, and his work accessible to those visiting the site. Also offers lectures, workshops, seminars, poetry readings, Art Gallery, poetry festivals, and exhibits. Call for more information.

Provides primary care, mental health services, psychiatry, medication management, substance use disorder treatment, peer services, and care management to individuals and families.

Handles legal matters including civil, criminal, small claims, and traffic cases within the Town of Ancram.

Assists participants with enrollment fees in a variety of certificate programs that enable participants to gain marketable employment skills through the acquisition of certificates, trainings and professional credentials increasing the likelihood of gainful employment. Services in Spanish available. Referral required.

Offers a full range of services and activities for adults and children, including computer access, story programs for preschoolers, and summer reading clubs for children and teens.

Supports individuals with significant behavior challenges. Participants are involved in on-site and volunteer activities that help them to improve their communication skills while minimizing their behaviors.

Provides centers for individuals struggling with mental or emotional issues to gain access to services and support.

Also known as the Are You OK Program, this is a collaborative effort between the Office for the Aging and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department in which the Sheriff's Department maintains a computerized system to contact elderly or disabled people at prearranged times. When there is no response, the Sheriff's Department notifies a designated contact person to check on the individual. Clients can arrange to cancel the call on a particular day in the event that they won't be home or the contact person won't be available.

Educates students within the school district boundary.

Services include: community residences; supervised apartments; supportive apartments; and services within individual's own home.
