A not-for-profit public interest firm providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Western New York. NLS aims to create the greatest access to the justice system for low-income individuals and those living with disabilities to pursue goals that will increase both the stability and the quality of their lives. Applying a person centered approach and an individualized service plan of action, the specific direction a person wants to take in life and the outcomes he or she wants to achieve are identified, activities are developed to open up community activities, forge the way toward independent living and encourage employment possibilities.

Provides specialized eye exams by eye doctors to evaluate a person's remaining vision and overall visual function and possibly prescribe optical devices to maximize a person's existing vision, and training in how to use them.

Administers Social Security Trust Fund to provide retirement, disability or death benefits to insured workers or their dependents/survivors medicare for aged 65 and over Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the needy over 65, blind or disabled. Provides comprehensive multidisplinary services to children and their families with hemophilia, Von Willebrand disease and related bleeding disorders. Staffing includes two hematologists (one pediatric, one adult), and orthopedist, two nurse clinicians, genetic counselor, social worker, physical therapist and a dental hygienist.

Provides support to children and families to prevent out-of-home placement of children. Provides support and stabilization to children in foster care placement. Offers support to youth and their families to identify their strengths and needs as they work to address the symptoms of their mental health diagnosis or behavioral health needs.

Provides support services to women who are affected by the incarceration of their spouse or significant other, and are caring for their children. These women can access peer support, receive counseling, and attend a unique weekend workshop, Loving Out Loud, which focuses on relationships with incarcerated men and solutions-based counseling.
