Housing opportunity for elderly persons 62 and older. Project is a 64-unit which provides rental assistance so that rent including utilities will be 30% of the tenant's income. All units are one-bedroom rental apartments. Development contains elevators, lounges, a library, community multipurpose room, sitting areas in lobbies, laundry room, senior activities, and support program facilities. Equipment provided in each apartment includes a stove, refrigerator, carpet in living/dining area and bedroom, exhaust fans in kitchen and bath, phone and TV hook-ups, emergency call systems, remote front door system, smoke and heat detectors, and sprinklers. Through various community partnerships, YWCA WNY continually works to enrich and expand community engagement opportunities, expand support services, and provide regular social activities for all School House Commons residents.

Provides assistance to New Yorkers with disabilities who are receiving or applying for vocational rehabilitation (VR) services from New York State VR agencies or from Tribal VR programs. The state agencies are the New York State Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) and the New York State Commission for the Blind (NYSCB). CAP also assists applicants and recipients of services from federally funded independent living centers (ILCs).

Full day camps are available on most holidays, vacation and conference days. The schedule follows the Southwestern School calendar. Traditional activities include swimming, theme activities, arts and crafts, group games, trips, and more.

Provides Thanksgiving turkey baskets, Christmas meal baskets, and Christmas toys during the holiday season for low-income residents. Gifts will be included with baskets for eligible families with children.

Serves as a Cooling Center for individuals during times of excessive heat. Always call ahead to make sure a Cooling Center is open before going there.

An education and support program that helps women with cancer manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment. Professional cosmetologists volunteer their expertise during group sessions. Complimentary kits containing name-brand cosmetics are distributed during group programs.

Utilizes trained Community Health Workers to identify, recruit, and assess the needs of targeted women before, during, and after their pregnancy. Community Health Workers provide mothers with referrals for services needed, education regarding the benefits of family planning and early prenatal care, assistance with obtaining health insurance and medical care, and follow-ups to assure that services were secured.

Day program for older adults and adults with developmental disabilities. Provides socialization, community involvement, nutritional program, transportation, recreation, and case management. Helps older adults and adults with developmental disabilities remain at home and gives caregivers time away from caregiving to help them do whatever they need to do, whether that be running errands, attending appointments, or going to work. Respite services are also offered at this location; services can be provided for as little as one hour to a full day.

Thrift store and food pantry. Sells linens, books, toys, miscellaneous items, clothing, and household items; no appliances available. All items are donated, and store is staffed by volunteers.

Provides outpatient substance use and alcohol abuse treatment services including psychosocial assessments, medical evaluations, individual therapy, group counseling, medication assisted treatment and psychiatric evaluations. Offers linkage to detox services, inpatient residential programs, and HIV Testing referrals. Aftercare planning provided. Same day access and walk in hours available (please call for days and times).
